Teen goes to prom thanks to special invite

Gilmer (KYTX) -- One high schooler wants to look back at his senior prom as his favorite memory. He's taking the one person who means the most to him, who wouldn't have gone without the invite. CBS19's Jaime Gerik shares the heartwarming story of his sister with special needs, getting her Cinderella moment.

Asking a girl to prom can be pretty nerve-wrecking, but for Clay Pierce, it was easy.

"I've always wanted to take my sister," Clay, an athlete at Diana High School, said.

Clay didn't want his sister, Catelynn, missing out.

"Since it's my senior year, to have the memories and the moments and have my sister with me," Clay said.

Catelynn has RETT Syndrome-- a rare genetic disorder involving a defect in the X chromosome. Catelynn's condition is severe and she's never been able to walk or talk. But, Clay says she's his rock at the end of a bad day.

"We might be watching something like Winnie the Pooh, but just to have her with me and be able to spend time with her it takes a lot of stress off your shoulders," Clay said.

And for one night she won't be in her room watching fairy tales on TV. She'll be living one like other girls.

"I don't think she has a good idea of what things are like that. She's grown up watching cartoons sitting in a room, and I wanted to give her a chance to get out and see her classmates," Clay said.

"Clay has a huge heart, he's always had a huge heart. He has never complained," Marci Pierce, mother of the teens, said.

Especially after seeing the look on his sister's face that said it all.

"We had him go in there and ask his sister if she wanted to go with him and she lit up. Well, as a momma, I cried," Marci said.

And when she hears the word "prom" a slight smile runs across Catelynn's face.

"And she has a pretty yellow dress and she's going to have jewelry, hair fixed and some makeup," Marci said.

Prom is next Saturday, and the family will probably eat dinner together before.

"I'm probably going to be in tears, but I'm looking forward to it," Clay said.

Clay is also going to have his girlfriend on his other arm, bringing both as dates for his senior year.
