Texans taking a stand against crime with fellowship

TYLER (KYTX) - Neighborhoods across East Texas were a little more lively Tuesday evening. East Texans are gathering at outdoor parties to unite against crime in their neighborhoods.

The event is similar to "National Night Out". The goal is to get neighbors to join together to take a proactive step in preventing crime and to increase participation in neighborhood watch groups.

Tyler Police Officer Toska Graham reminds people being a good neighbor and keeping a watchful eye should happen year round. "People should always be proactive in crime prevention throughout their neighborhood. This gives people the opportunity to interact with their neighbors, get to know their neighbors, exchange phone numbers and info and really just come together as a group so that they can always be on the lookout and make sure their neighborhood is safe."
