Texas Rangers Continue Their Investigation in the Akin Park Shooting

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A routine traffic stop Thursday escalated quickly at Akin Park off of Delwood Drive, when a Longview Police Officer shot 23-year-old Regan Wagner. He later died at Longview Regional Medical Center.  Longview Police have not confirmed what Wagner did to threaten the officer, and wouldn't say that shots were "exchanged" between Wagner and the officer. Only that the officer felt it necessary to use force.  Longview Police Officer Kristie Brian says using deadly force is up to each officer.

"Every situation is different. We are trained in many different situations. The officer, at the time the situation occurs, they're trained to react the way they need to react." - Kristie Brian, Public Information Officer, Longview Police Department

According to online arrest records, Wagner has a violent past.  Last year, he was arrested for making terroristic threats against a public servant, and back in March he was convicted of the same thing. The investigation has been left to the Texas Rangers who will determine what happened, and if the Longview Police Officer used force correctly.
