FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - One of the most anticipated shopping weekends of the year has been announced.
Texas' annual sales tax holiday will be held August 8-10 this year.
The weekend allows shoppers to pocket the state sales tax for many items priced less than $100, a savings which adds up to about $8 for every $100 spend.
"Families gearing up for the new school year will not pay any sales tax for many back-to-school items ranging from pens to blue jeans," said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs. "When the back-to-school list is long and the money is short, it can be difficult for Texas families. We hope this tax break will help ease that burden."
Clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks are among the items exempt from sales tax.
This is the 15th year Texas has observed the sales tax holiday.
