Texting Scams

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - April Shivers has been receiving these text messages twice a day since Sunday.  The messages were from  different phone numbers.
"The message reads, Community Bank - please call"
The numbers April received have already been shutdown by the Federal Trade Commission.
But other numbers still exist.
She says her 14 year old daughter Katelyn was the first to get the messages.
"I told my mom that I got this weird message and I didn't know where it come from. She told me not to reply"
Longview Police Spokeswoman Kristie Brian says that these two aren't alone and police have been filing  reports since Sunday.
"It's happening here in Longview and also around the country. " - Kristie Brian
This practice is called "fishing".  Scammers go fishing for information about you, or your accounts via emails, texts or voicemail.
The messages usually claim that there is a problem with your account and ask you to send them information to fix it.
"For this, it really goes across the board. You have all ages of people that have cell phones. If your kids receive the message, tell them to delete it immediately and not to give out any information"
