The message behind "Hell House"

The message behind "Hell House"

TYLER (KYTX) - Like any haunted house, "Hell House" has your fair share of demons.

But, organizers say these demons are what haunt many people in their personal lives.

"Your life will be nothing but nightmares from now on," said an actress in a scene about abortion.

Arla Phelps plays the role of an evil spirit, in the mind of a young girl, who has made the choice to have an abortion.

In other parts of "Hell House", we saw depictions of pornography.

"No you're not pretty, you're not beautiful, these girls are what he wants," said one actor.

In another room, we see domestic violence. Just down the hall, we watched a demon taunt a young girl who had just been molested by her father.

"It's pathetic, you're shameful," said the actress.

The idea of this type of "haunted" house is nothing new. You can find them all over the country.

It's been in Tyler for more than two decades.

"We're definitely not in the preaching mode, we're not interested in just preaching at people," said Gary Hawley, organizer.

Organizers say some people might consider what they see extreme. But, they say it is nothing different from what people face everyday.

"With the bullying and the suicide rate still rampant, it's an extreme world," said Hawley.

They say, if people, see this for themselves, they'll see the true message.

"The world is so evil with deceit. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow," said Arla Phelps.

There are christian counselors and people willing to pray with people at the end.

Organizers say 389 people made the choice to accept Christ last year after coming through Hell House. 260 people rededicated their lives to Christ.
