SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) – A 20-year-old Tyler man was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of burglary of a habitation.
Devonte Hawkins is one of three suspects who was wanted in connection with home burglaries that occurred in Northwest Smith County April 24, 2014.
On Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Smith County Sheriff's Office detectives along with the U.S. Marshals Service executed an arrest warrant at the Travelodge motel, located near the intersection of Highway 69 North and Loop 323.
Hawkins is charged with two counts of Burglary of a Habitation. The warrants were issued by Judge Christi Kenney of the 114th State District Court who set bond on each count at $150,000. Hawkins is currently being booked into the Smith County Jail.
On April 24 of this year, Devonte Hawkins and Brandon Ervin, age 21 of Tyler, and LaSabien Ford, age 17 of Tyler, allegedly committed two Burglaries of a Habitation in northwestern Smith County.
Detectives with the Smith County Sheriff's Office reported that the first burglary was committed while the homeowner slept. Hawkins, Ervin and Ford have ties to local street gangs and are linked to several other burglaries where multiple firearms were taken.
Ford turned himself in to the Sheriff's Office on May 23, 2014. Ervin was arrested July 7, 2014. Both are currently in the Smith County Jail on two Burglary of a Habitation warrants each which were issued by Judge Christi Kennedy of the 114th State District Court who set bond on each count at $150,000, totaling a $300,000 bond for both Ford and Ervin.
