TISD celebrates Texas Public Schools Week

East Texas public schools are opening their doors to parents and members of the community. Throughout the month of March, Texas public schools are picking a week to showcase their district. It's an opportunity to promote the benefits of public education. Peete Elementary in Tyler's theme this week is "Honoring our STAARS", putting a positive spin on tests next month.

Principal John Dees said the week is about getting the community involved. "It's important that we provide the very best service to all of our students and that we partner and work closely with our community to serve all of our students. It's really just a good opportunity for us to all come together and have fun together, while we're learning."

More than five-million students are enrolled in Texas public schools.
