TJC welcomes new Director of Alumni Affairs

(KYTX) - Don Fraser has joined Tyler Junior College as its new director of alumni affairs.

Fraser was previously director of alumni relations at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., where he spent the last seven years building the university's alumni program from the ground up.

As TJC director of alumni affairs, Fraser is responsible for the TJC Alumni Association, including its operations, chapters, events and development.

"Don was selected through a rigorous application process which included screening by a task force composed of TJC Alumni Association board members as well as TJC faculty and staff," said Mitch Andrews, TJC executive director of advancement and alumni engagement.

"Many applied, but Don was our top choice. We're lucky to have him at Tyler Junior College and excited about the direction he will be leading the TJC Alumni Association."

Fraser said, "My first couple weeks at TJC have been a whirlwind! First, we broke ground on the new Rogers Nursing and Health Sciences Center, and I have been making the rounds and meeting my new colleagues and several alumni.

"On Saturday, I attended my first TJC home football game. What an amazing display of school spirit! It's an exciting time to be at Tyler Junior College, and I look forward to meeting the many faithful TJC alumni and making new friends along the way.

"It doesn't take long to figure out this is a special place. I couldn't be happier to be here."

Fraser was born in Amarillo to an Air Force family, and his wife Donna is a Dallas native.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Principia College in Elsah, Ill., and an MBA from Grand Canyon University.

Fraser spent the first part of his professional career as an aviator in the United States Navy, where he was qualified in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. He is also qualified as an expert, "Silver E" marksman in both rifle and pistol.

"During my military career, I was able to travel extensively around the world, and observe the different perceptions that cultures have about leadership and service," he said. "I have seen good leaders and bad, and hope to help shape the good leaders of the future."

Fraser has worked in education for almost 20 years.

In his spare time, he builds canoes and kayaks and enjoys water sports.

He and his wife Donna have a combined family of 12 children and 12 grandchildren.

Fraser can be reached by email at or by calling 903-510-2371.
