Traffic stop in Gregg Co. leads to drug bust

GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Sheriff Maxey Cerliano and the Gregg County Sheriff's Office are releasing information on a major drug arrest in Gregg County on July 16th.

Just after noon on Tuesday, July 16th, Deputy Tracy Freeman observed a speeding vehicle traveling east bound on Interstate 20. Deputy Freeman activated his emergency lights and the 2003 black Cadillac attempted to evade the stop by exiting on Estes Parkway and driving a short distance to the back of Hampton Inn parking lot.

Deputy Freeman located the vehicle and found the driver to be 31-year-old Sherman Lamont Edwards of Dallas, who had no driver license. Upon arresting Edwards, Deputy Freeman located a plastic bag containing 120 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of over $10,000.00.

Edwards was transported to the Gregg County Jail, charged with felony 1 manufacture and delivery of between 4 grams and 200 grams of a controlled substance. No bond has been set at this time.
