Traffic stop in Kilgore leads to large cash seizure

KILGORE (KYTX) - A  routine traffic stop by Kilgore Police Sergeant Jarod Sears resulted in the seizure of more than $34,000 in cash.

On Friday, May 2nd,  Sergeant Sears made a traffic stop on a Honda Accord which was traveling on U.S. Interstate 20.

After an initial interview of the driver, Sergeant Sears became suspicious of the drivers actions and storyline. Sergeant Sears asked for the driver's consent to search the vehicle which was gained.

During the search, $34,970.00 in U.S. Currency was found hidden within the vehicle.  The money was located inside the vehicle's door jams.
The Smith County Canine Team Assisted in the search.

The money and vehicle were both seized by police due to suspected money laundering common with drug trafficking operations.

The driver has not been charged with a criminal offense at this time.
