Trinity Co. man arrested after threatening neighbors with a gun

Trinity County Sheriff's Office:

TRINITY COUNTY (KYTX) - On January 22, 2013 Trinity County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a man with a gun acting belligerent and threatening neighbors in the Glendale community. Officers from Trinity County Sheriff's Office, Trinity Police Department, Groveton Police Department and the 258th District Attorney's office responded to the address and officers were able to subdue and arrest David Hunter.

This incident started when neighbors, who subsequently are the victims in this case, heard two gun shots from a neighbor's house. Statements from the victims stated that Hunter, who is a known felon, appeared at the door of one neighbor's house yelling and acting in a belligerent manner, then entered the house and began to make sexual gestures. The victim was able to escape out the back door of her house after her dog began to attack Hunter. She then ran to the neighbor's house for help with Hunter pursuing her. Hunter was met by the man of the second house and was warned not to enter his property and go to home. Hunter walked down the driveway towards the road only to return moments later with a rifle. Hunter began trying to enter the house that three people were hiding in. Hunter was screaming and banging on the windows and door of the house that the victims were in and then they called 911. The man of the house was armed and Hunter was informed that he would be shot if he did not leave. Hunter then pretended to unload the rifle and showed the victims some bullets in his hand in attempt to lure them out of the house. When officers seized the weapon the gun was still loaded and the safety was off.

Victims in this case were literally shaking with fear for hours after this incident and believe that if Hunter was not met with a man prepared to shoot back that this situation would have turned out deadly.

Hunter, age 51, is being charged with Felon in Possession of a fire arm and held in the Trinity County Jail. Charges of Burglary of a habitation are pending further investigation.
