Two members of Texas A&M-Commerce women's basketball team killed in crash

PARIS (KYTX) - Students and faculty are mourning the loss of two members of the Texas A&M -Commerce women's basketball team who were killed in a car crash Tuesday June 3, 2014 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The two students killed have been identified as Aubree Butts of Lewisville and Devin Oliver of Rowlett.

According to KETR 88.9, two other passengers who were in the vehicle were transported to Paris Regional Medical Center.
La'Tisha Hearne of Richardson, and Zenobia Winbush of Schertz, Texas were first listed in critical condition and have since been released from the hospital.

The women were en route to Paris High School to watch a summer league basketball game.

Officers investigating the accident said the car carrying the four victims pulled out in front of an 18-wheeler after stopping at a stop sign at the intersection of FM 1497 and Loop 286.

In a press release ,Texas A&M Commerce President Dr. Dan Jones said,  "This is an unspeakable tragedy and a loss that is felt by the entire university community"."Our thoughts and prayers are with our entire women's basketball and student-athlete family right now,"

Ryan Ivey, A&M-Commerce Director of Athletics said. "We are saddened and heartbroken by the recent events, by our time being cut short with two great people who were full of life and Lion spirit."

A student-led candlelight vigil will take place at 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 4 in Rachel's Garden on the A&M-Commerce campus. It is located directly across the street from the Field House.

The Paris Police Department says the accident remains under investigation.
