A Smith County jury sentenced 30-year-old Cantrell Sash Wednesday following a two-day trial for first degree felony arson of a habitation.
Sash was first arrested in May of 2013, accused of setting fire to an apartment complex located at 710 Kennedy in Tyler. He was released from the Smith County jail in July and later indicted for the crime. Sash was re-arrested in January of 2014.
Smith County Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Biggs prosecuted the case, which began Tuesday. After two days of testimony the jury found Sash guilty and later sentenced him to 48 years in prison.
Judge Jack Skeen Jr. formally pronounced the sentence Wednesday evening. Sash will be eligible for parole in 2026.
