Tyler man gets 40 years for 2011 Longview store robbery

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A Tyler man received 40 years in prison Wednesday for the November 2011 robbery of a South Longview convenience store.

Police said 48-year-old Alvin Lee Craig robbed a Food Fast store at knifepoint in the 100 block of South Access Road on Nov. 7, 2011. He fled the scene, but was spotted near the intersection of Eastman Road and Alpine Street in northeast Longview before leading authorities on a high-speed chase into Upshur County before he was arrested on Jaguar Road near Gilmer, police said.

On Wednesday, he pled guilty to aggravated robbery before Gregg County 124th District Judge Alfonso Charles, who sentenced Craig to 40 years in prison. He faced up to life in prison.

Craig was also charged in 2011 with evading arrest in a vehicle - a state jail felony - but he was not indicted by a grand jury on that charge.
