Tyler Police conducting raids on suspected illegal game rooms

On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., Tyler Police Department along with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office executed numerous search warrants on locations that contained suspected gambling devices.

These locations were selected as a result of an on-going investigation conducted by our vice unit over the past month.  Numerous gambling devices were seized today as a result of the search warrants.

No one was arrested today during the search warrant process and investigators continue to compile evidence for future prosecution.

The raids come after a major crackdown on gamerooms in the area in November and December 2016, according to our partners at the Tyler Morning Telegraph. The gamerooms were located in storefronts, gas stations and even laundromats.

Tyler PD said, at the time, that the gambling activity had led to an increase in aggravated robberies as well.
