Released by the City of Tyler:
Today in the Tyler City Council meeting, the Tyler Police Department was recognized as a Platinum Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association's "My Heart. My Life." initiative.
This program is intended to be a catalyst for positive change in the workplace across America and recognizes worksites for making the health and wellness of their employees a priority.
The Tyler Police Department is the first police department in the United States to receive the Platinum Award, the American Heart Association's pinnacle of corporate wellness," said Brandi Banda, American Heart Association corporate market director.
The Police Department has demonstrated that employees are offered physical activity support and that a culture of wellness is promoted. The department has increased the number of healthy eating options available at the worksite along with a state of the art work out facility.
"Detective John Ragland has been instrumental in helping the Police Department adopt the spirit of this initiative and in trying to improve the health and wellness of our employees," said Police Chief Gary Swindle.
