From the City of Tyler:
TYLER (KYTX) - The City of Tyler was awarded the Quality Texas Progress Level Award for demonstrating a sound, balanced approach to organizational management and performance improvement by the Quality Texas Foundation.
"We are comparing ourselves to some of the best companies in the world to ensure that we are working as efficiently as possible while providing quality customer service," said Tyler City Manager Mark McDaniel. "Our goal is to be the standard for performance excellence in local government."
Last year Quality Texas awarded the City the Engagement Level Award for its work towards performance excellence.
"Now that we have received the Progress Award, we are one step closer to completing our journey towards the Texas Award for Performance Excellence," said McDaniel. "I am extremely proud of the efforts put forth by all of our dedicated employees to get us to this point. They are all called to serve and it shows."
Tyler was one of five businesses in the State of Texas to be recognized with the Progress Level Award. Other honorees were Deli Management, Inc. (Jason's Deli), Puerto Rico Small Business and Technology Development Centers, Texas Association of School Business Officials and the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.
In 1997, Tyler adopted the "Blueprint" that has been the foundation for the City's journey of continuous improvement. Since then, the City developed a comprehensive Lean Six Sigma
program, an internal training program called City University, a three-year budget forecasting system and a business planning model. This commitment to continuous improvement led to the creation of Tyler's Performance Excellence Program (PEP).
Quality Texas encourages use of the rigorous Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence to save jobs, improve communities and create a stronger state and nation. To date, only two cities nationwide have received this distinguished award. The 2014 multi-level recognitions will be presented during the Quality Texas Recognition Luncheon on June 24, at the Crowne Plaza, Addison, Texas.
