TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Cumberland Academy, a Tyler-based charter school, is planning to add a high school.
The academy's board of directors approved applying to the Texas Education Agency for a high school expansion, according to a post on its Facebook page. The board made the decision "in response to community needs and requests from parents who have students at Cumberland Academy," according to the post.
Cumberland Academy serves kindergarten through sixth-graders, but will add seventh grade this fall and eighth grade in fall 2014.
The charter school, which is located at 1340 Shiloh Road, is in the process of building a middle school facility on the property.
