(CNN) - Dozens of people are arrested in a major medicare fraud bust.
The U.S. Justice Department says 89 people, including doctors and nurses, stole a total of $223-million dollars from tax payer-funded programs. The Medicare Fraud Strike Force carried out the bust. Police say they arrested 25 people in Miami, accused of falsely billing $44 million in fake health care services. Three suspects in Detroit allegedly made $12 million dollars by posing as doctors.
Charges were also levied against suspects in Louisiana, Houston, Los Angeles, Tampa, Chicago and Brooklyn.
