Palestine Police Department:
UPDATE: PALESTINE (KYTX) - Due to an anonymous tip along with help from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Palestine Police located 20-year-old David Orihuela at his home outside the city limits of Palestine.
Police also located Orihuela's Toyota vehicle. After some additional investigation Orihuela was arrested for Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death.
Orihuela is being held in the Anderson County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Failing to comply with section 550.021 of the Texas Transportation Code carries a punishment of up to 5 years if a person (victim) is injured.
It is a Third Degree Felony if the victim dies as a result of the accident and the actor does not comply with the above mentioned section.
Orihuela could also face additional charges.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
PALESTINE (KYTX) - The Palestine Police Department is continuing to work on a Hit and Run type accident that took place on West Palestine Ave Monday night.
At approximately 11 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of West Palestine Ave. in reference to a possible intoxicated person. Officers arrived on the scene and located a man lying in the road.
Officers were able to determine that the man was severely injured. The injuries and the fact that the man was in the street suggested that the man may have been hit by a vehicle however there was no vehicle in the area.
During the initial stages of the investigation police received an anonymous call and with help from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, a person of interest and vehicle were located. This person of interest has interviewed by police concerning this matter.
The victim who was not identified at the time of the initial incident was transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment. The victim was listed in serious but stable condition at the time of his transport.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Police feel that alcohol may have been a factor in this incident. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
