Update: Boil Water Notice for Winona Lifted

UPDATE: WINONA (KYTX) - The City of Winona is NO LONGER under a Boil Water Notice. TCEQ Texas Commission on Environmental Control has given permission to lift the notice. The water in Winona is safe.

City Administrator Bryan Richards would like to thank everyone for their support and patience.

Original Notification:

The City of Winona, Texas is currently under a BOIL WATER NOTICE until further notice due to low chlorine residuals. The chlorine pump at our Well 5 location failed and has since been replaced.

The chlorine is back in operation but TCEQ is requiring us to send this notice until the water can be tested by them.

Due to conditions which have occurred recently in the water system, The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking , cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify you.
