Update: Christopher Shane Wiley charged with killing companion gets life in prison

UPDATE: TYLER (KYTX) - On Friday, jurors handed down the maximum punishment for Christopher Wiley. He was sentenced to life in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Jurors deliberated about an hour, and rejected the possibility it was a crime of passion. 

Wiley's defense attorney has already filed paperwork to appeal the decision. His defense attorney through the appeal process will be court-appointed attorney Austin Reeve Jackson.

Wiley will be eligible for parole in 30 years.



TYLER (KYTX) - In a Tyler courtroom arguments started Tuesday in the murder trial of Christopher Shane Wiley.

Wiley's next-door neighbor testified that he came to her house the night Rodney Walker was shot.

The neighbor says she went to get her husband and when they returned Wiley was on the floor and a bottle of pills was nearby. She says she'd known Wiley and Walker ten years, and the two were long- time companions.

Wiley is charged with first degree murder in Walker's death.

It happened July 1, 2013.
