Update: Family speaks about police investigating suspicious death

TYLER (KYTX) -- CBS19 spoke to the family members of 38-year-old Chad Everett Davis, an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He's also a brother, uncle, and son.

"I'm still in shock, he was a kind-hearted person," Susan Brown, Davis's mother, said.

She tells us her son was set to come over to her house today for a belated Thanksgiving lunch, but that didn't happen. "He called me last night at 8 and he told me he was with his friend. He didn't tell me anything about going camping," Brown said.

That was the last time she spoke to Davis, who has suffered from health issues ranging from high blood pressure to kidney failure. He's had a kidney transplant. "We thought he'd die of health issues. He's had the transplant a long time, but kidneys don't last forever," Brown said.

Davis was found around 1 a.m. with serious injuries and taken to ETMC. While police were on scene investigating, they got word he had died. At this point, Brown only knows what investigators have told her. "That it looked like they were camping, and there were several people around, and they are talking to everybody. He had a stab wound and possibly a bullet wound," Brown said.

His sister Chelsea Collier is in disbelief that her brother is gone."I just can't believe he passed this way," she said.

Davis lived with his grandmother in Tyler, who he was helping care for.
