Update: Funeral services planned for Christmas Store owner Ralph Leonard "R.L." Davis

TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Longtime Tyler businessman Ralph Leonard "R.L." Davis, owner of The Christmas Store, has died. He was 86.

In 1950, following a stint in the U.S. Army, Davis moved to Tyler and owned two dress stores that evolved into a women's apparel manufacturing business. The R.L. Davis Manufacturing Co. became a founding member of Dallas' World Trade Center. He sold the company in 1981.

Davis then opened The Christmas Store and a gift store called R.L. Davis Fine Gifts. He sold the gift store in 2006, but the Christmas Store on West Erwin Street, remains open.

Davis died Wednesday night from a longtime illness. Ralph Davis' funeral is Friday at 3:30pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Burial will immediately follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
