Update: Husband accused of killing ex-wife in front of their children remains in jail

HUNT COUNTY (KYTX) -- Micah Crofford Brown, 32, of Greenville, remains in custody of the Hunt County Jail on $1.5 million bond on a charge of murder in connection to the detah of his ex-wife Stella Michelle Ray.

Police say Brown confessed to shooting Ray in front of their two kids in Greenville on the night of July 20th over a custody dispute. Brown was arrested the next morning.

HUNT COUNTY (KYTX) -- UPDATE (Friday, July 22): Micah Crofford Brown is still in custody at the Hunt County Jail, where he was arraigned Friday morning on a charge of murder.

Brown is alleged to have shot his ex-wife, Stella Michelle Ray, on Wednesday night in front of their children.

Ray was a teacher at Caddo Mills High School.

A candlelight vigil for Ray is scheduled for 8:00 pm Friday evening on the parking lot of Caddo Mills High School.

A benefit for Brown and Ray's three children has been established at Alliance Bank in Greenville.

GREENVILLE (KYTX) -- A man has been arrested on charges that he fatally shot his ex-wife in Greenville late Wednesday evening.

On July 20, 2011, at 10:21 p.m. the Greenville Police Department responded to the 5600 block of Sayle Street regarding a female who was being followed by her ex-husband. She indicated that she feared he would run her off of the road.

A Greenville Police Officer located two vehicles in the 5100 block of Sayle Street. Immediately upon the officer's arrival, he witnessed a shot fired from one vehicle. That vehicle fled north on Sayle Street.

The officer provided a description of the suspect's vehicle and then attempted to aid the gunshot victim. The description of the suspect's vehicle was relayed to surrounding law enforcement agencies. A DPS helicopter responded to assist with the search for the suspect.

The victim, a 36-year old white female, was transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

The victim's two children, ages two and three, were in the backseat of her vehicle at the time of the shooting. The children did not appear to be injured. They are currently in the custody of family members.

At about 3:00 am Thursday morning, the Hunt County Sheriff's Department received a call from a resident about a suspicious man in the area of Highway 69 North and CR 1033, which is two to three miles outside of Greenville.

The DPS helicopter located an abandoned vehicle in the same area, and a Hunt County Deputy confirmed that it matched the description of the suspect's vehicle.

The Greenville Police Department, Hunt County Sheriff's Department, DPS, McKinney Police Department, Garland Police Department, Caddo Mills Police Department and Celeste Police Department worked together to search the area for the suspect.

At 7:01 am, the Hunt County Sheriff's Department received a call notifying them that a man with a gun was at a location on Highway 69 North. Officers responded and Greenville Police Department Tactical Team members were able to take the suspect, identified as Micah Crofford Brown, 32, into custody.

The victim has been indentified as Stella Michelle Ray. Ray is Brown's ex-wife.
