Update: Man dies working on floors at Tyler City Hall

UPDATE (KYTX) - New information on a construction worker found dead at Tyler city hall over the weekend.

We've learned the worker is 28-year-old Shawn Baughman of Tyler.

We're told Baughman's co-workers decided to leave around 5pm Saturday.

Investigators said Baughman told his co-workers that he needed to stay a little longer to finish his work. So, they left him alone.

Sunday morning, they found him unresponsive in an office on the second floor.

Tyler Police Officer Don Martin said the windows were closed. The odor was so strong officers had to break out the window to get fresh air.

You can donate to the Baughman family at any Southside Bank.

FROM THE CITY OF TYLER:

Earlier today, the Tyler Police Department responded to a call at Tyler City Hall. Upon investigating, officers found that a man had passed away after being overcome by fumes emitted from a stain being applied during a renovation project.
The worker was employed by Watson Commercial Paint Company, a subcontractor to RPR Construction.  RPR had been hired to renovate a portion of the second floor of City Hall.
Police conducted a thorough investigation of the incident.  In addition, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also completed their own investigation.
"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased," said City Manager Mark McDaniel.  "This is a very tragic situation and we are truly saddened."
