UPDATE: Man hit and killed in Tyler accident identified

UPDATE: The victim in last night's pedestrian accident that was struck and killed has been identified as Eddie Joe Shands, W/M, age 74, from Tyler.



On 02-23-2014 at approximately 9:21 pm Officers responded to a pedestrian accident in the 1600 block of South Vine.  Tyler Fire Department and EMS were on scene and determined the victim was deceased.  The vehicle involved was a 1997 white Ford truck  The driver of the vehicle remained at the accident scene to talk with officers.  The driver of the vehicle was traveling south in the 1600 block of South Vine when he struck the victim.  The victim was not at a cross walk when he was struck.  The victim is a white male whose identity isn't being released pending notification of the victim's family.  This case is still under investigation.



TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) -- A man was killed Sunday evening after he was hit by a truck on South Vine Street.

Tyler Police Sgt. Adam Colby said the department was called to a pedestrian versus automobile accident at 9:21 p.m. in the 1600 block of Vine Street, between West Fifth Street and Glenwood Boulevard.

A white male was killed when he was stuck by a white Ford F-150 extended cab truck. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Colby said the wreck appears to be accidental and no criminal charges are pending at this time.

The department did not release details of how the wreck happened pending its investigation.

Police expect Vine Street to be blocked off for at least two hours while they investigate.
