UPDATE: Man killed in Van died of stab wound



UPDATE: VAN (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The man found dead in East Ohio Street in Van this morning had suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest, according to Van Police Chief Tony Richardson.

Van police received a 9-1-1 call at 10:26 a.m. of a man in the street, and because initial reports said that gunshots were heard, the schools were locked down. However, Chief Richardson said that police are questioning several people, and that he does not believe the public is in any imminent danger.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is a white man believed to be in his 40s.


VAN (KYTX) - Van Police and Van Zandt County Sheriffs deputies are on the scene of a homicide on East Ohio St that leaves one man dead.

Neighbors tell CBS19 a stabbing occurred in the street around 10:20 this morning after two men were seen arguing. Investigators have roped off the victim's house, who lives on the opposite end of the street.

One witness, who didn't want to be identified, says police arrested two people from a house next to the crime scene. He says the male in custody is the same man he saw chasing the victim before the stabbing.

We are still working on identifying the suspect and victim.

Authorities are holding a press conference at 1:30 with more details.

Neighbors add drug activity is rampant on the street, and some are worried about their safety.
