Update: More charges filed against Nacogdoches man accused of assaulting young child

NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office has filed additional charges on Jose Ignacio Lopez of Nacogdoches for Injury to a child a first degree felony. Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that the charges stem from a sexual assault investigation that the Sheriff Office started investigating on October 13, 2013.

The Sheriff Office was contacted by Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in reference to a child who had been assaulted. Upon further investigation it was found that the child had been sexually assaulted by identified as Lopez.

During this investigation it was revealed that the child is younger than six years of age and had contracted a sexual transmitted disease from the assault. A warrant was obtained for the suspect for Aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony. The suspect was arrested on that charge on October 17 and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

During the ongoing investigation, sheriff investigators requested a forensic exam from the suspect. The results of that test have confirmed that the victim obtained the sexual transmitted disease from the suspect. Sheriff Investigators obtained another warrant for Lopez arrest on Tuesday afternoon for the injury to a Child charge and he was served with that warrant at the Nacogdoches County Jail.

Jose Ignacio Lopez bond has been set at $150,000 dollars on the Aggravated sexual assault charge. Lopez is awaiting arraignment on the injury to a child charge.




NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Nacogdoches man for aggravated sexual assault of a child a felony.

Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that the investigation started Oct. 13, when the mother of the victim noticed something wrong with her child. The child was then taken to Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The sheriff office was notified and responded to Memorial Hospital for an investigation. Investigators then set up a forensic exam and interview with the victim at the Harold House. Investigators with the Sheriff office gained probable cause for a warrant for the arrest of the suspect in the case, 19-year-old Jose Ignacio Lopez.

Lopez was arrested Thursday at his work. The victim in this case is younger than six years of age.

Sheriff Bridges stated that as a result of the assault, the child has contracted a sexually transmitted disease from the suspect in this case. The child is receiving medical attention for that. Bridges stated that the sheriff office is having blood test conducted on the suspect as well. More charges will be filed when we receive the results of that test for endangering a child due to the sexually transmitted disease.

Lopez remains in Nacogdoches County Jail.
