UPDATE: Name released of victim in early morning head-on collision


UPDATE: The names of the people involved in the wreck on State Highway 322 in Rusk County have been released.

Trooper Jean Dark tells CBS 19 that 30-year-old Patrick Newton of Henderson and his  passenger Jonathan Darwin Robertson, 25, also of Henderson were traveling northbound on Hwy. 322 in a 1997 1500 Chevy around 6:20 a.m. when they were hit head on by a 1999 Chevy truck, driven by 19-year-old Brandon Whitehorn.

Whitehorn was traveling southbound on Hwy 322 when for unknown reasons he ran across the lane into a ditch, overcorrected and struck Newton's truck.

Robertson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Newton and Whitehorn were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Their condition is unknown.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.


UPDATE: Two people were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview and one person died following the accident that happened on Highway 322 near CR 2121 Friday morning.

DPS Trooper Jake Leblance tells CBS 19 that a Chevy truck driving southbound on 322 when it veered over into the oncoming traffic's lane, corrected back onto the road, and ran head on into a an oncoming Chevy truck traveling northbound.

The passenger of the northbound traveling truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

No word on the condition of the other two people involved in the accident.



RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - Emergency crews are on the scene of a major accident in Rusk County.

DPS tells CBS 19 that the accident happened on Highway 322 near CR 2121.

Reportedly, one person has died from injuries.
