LAFAYETTE PARISH (KYTX) - Lafayette Parish sheriff's officials have released the names of a man and woman found dead Wednesday in their home.
The victims are 52-year-old Joseph Babineaux, and 52-year-old Judith Babineaux.
The couple was found dead by their daughter inside their home. The daughter lived in the home along with one other sibling and the parents. Deputies discovered the man and his wife both deceased having gunshot wounds. The bodies were found in a front part of the home, and no obvious signs of forced entry were noted. Family members later reported nothing missing from the home.
Investigators have sufficient preliminary Forensic Evidence to indicate that Mrs. Babineaux was shot and killed first and that Mr. Babineaux had a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Additional Forensic testing and pathology reports will be used to verify the initial findings. A handgun, believed to be that of Mr. Babineaux, was recovered in proximity to the bodies.
Investigators are continuing to process evidence and conduct interviews in this case.
LAFAYETTE PARISH (KYTX) - Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies received a call of two people found dead inside a home in the 100 block of Lebesque Road.
Deputies arrived to find a male and female resident who had both sustained gunshot wounds, both victims were lifeless and later pronounced dead by the Lafayette Parish Coroner.
The investigation continues at this time with investigators interviewing family members, friends, neighbors and others who may have had contact with deceased sometime today. Investigators believe the deaths occurred between noon and 4 p.m., but have not established any further details. The identities of the victims are being withheld until Thursday morning as family members are still being notified.
Investigators have confirmed that four adults lived in the home and all were immediate family members, the other two residents have been located and are cooperating with the investigators. No obvious forced entry was noted and deputies are awaiting the completion of the Forensic processing of the scene to allow family into the home to determine if anything is missing.
