UPDATE: The general manager of Broadway Square Mall tells KYTX CBS 19 News that their officer was the first in the parking lot following the shooting.
He says the officer helped as he could until police and other first responders arrived.
Simon, the mall's parent company, has not released any more information.
The general manager says the safety of the malls customers is their top priority, however, this was an isolated incident and there are no extra steps to be taken.

Tyler Police Investigate Shooting at Broadway Square Mall
On Saturday, February 09, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. Tyler Police received a 911 call in reference to a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of Broadway Square Mall, located at 4601 S. Broadway.
Officers on the scene discovered one victim who had been fatally shot lying in the Northeast corner parking area of Broadway Square Mall. The deceased victim was identified as Christopher Mass, B/M, 10/07/1989, of Tyler.
Officers located the shooter who remained at the scene of the incident. He was identified as Ricky Neal Jr., B/M, 09/29/1987, of Henderson Texas. Neal was transported to Tyler Police Department by investigators and subsequently charged with 1st degree Murder.
Neal and his girlfriend went to Broadway Square Mall to purchase some shoes. Neal went alone into the mall and got into a verbal confrontation with two subjects already in the mall. Investigators were told that Neal and these subjects were going to go outside the mall to fight over their disagreement that stemmed from a tweet from Neal to one of the subjects girlfriend.
Neal returned to his vehicle and told his girlfriend to go in the mall to purchase his shoes. As the other subjects approached Neal he pulled out a 40 cal. handgun from his vehicle and fired several rounds at three subjects that were approaching him.
Preliminary investigation of Christopher Mass determined that he was struck by two rounds. Mass died at the scene from his wounds. The other subjects ran from the gunfire and were not struck.
Investigators determined that no other weapons were involved in the incident.
During the processing of the crime scene, a subject identified as Desmond Javon Black, B/M, 09/12/1982, of Tyler, went underneath the crime scene barrier tape and ran towards the victim who was protected by officers. Officer gave verbal commands for Black to stop as he charged the scene and continued to ignore officer's commands. Officers took Black into custody and charged him with interference with public duties. During the search of Black they discovered that he was in possession of marijuana which he was also charged with.
UPDATE: Tyler Police Department has released the names of the people involved in the fatal shooting at Broadway Square Mall Saturday morning.
The alleged shooter has been identified as 25-year-old Ricky Neal Jr. of Henderson. Neal is charged with first degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities identified the victim as 23-year-old Chris Mass of Tyler.
According to Officer Don Martin, Tyler Police Public Information Officer, the shooting reportedly stemmed from a tweet on the social media platform Twitter to a girlfriend of one man who was with Mass at the mall.
The two men confronted each other inside the mall and proceeded to take the argument outside.
A fight pursued during which a gun was allegedly pulled by Ricky Neal and fired it hitting Mass twice.
Authorities tell CBS19 that Mass was shot once in the chest and once in the neck.
Neal's bond is set at $1.25 million.
Police say 30-year-old Desmond Javon Black of Tyler rushed toward Neal's body while officers were investigating. He was arrested and charged with interference with public duties and possession of a controlled substance.
UPDATE: TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Tyler Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happen at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday outside the Broadway Square Mall on South Broadway in Tyler.
The shooting was a result of a confrontation which started in Champs Shoes and then spilled into the mall parking lot outside the JC Penney entrance, according to Don Martin, Tyler Police Public Information Officer.
The man in the car brandished a weapon and shot one of the males, Martin said.
The suspected shooter is in police custody.
Martin said the victim is a 23-year-old Tyler resident.
No names have been released until next of kin have been notified.
After the shooting, A family member of the deceased jumped the crime scene barrier to get at the body. Tyler Police arrested the man and charged him with interfering with an investigation, Martin said.
The Tyler Police crime scene technicians are at the scene gathering evidence.
The JC Penney entrance is closed because of the police investigation, but the Broadway Square Mall remains open.
