UPDATED: Catholic Diocese of Tyler ordains Bishop Joseph E. Strickland

TYLER (KYTX) - Bishop Joseph E. Strickland, JCL was ordained as a bishop and installed as the fourth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Caldwell Auditorium.

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, the Cardinal Archbishop of Galveston- Houston will be the principal Celebrant and Principal Consecrator of Bishop Strickland.

Cardinal DiNardo will be assisted by Archbishop Michael Sheehan, Archbishop of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Bishop Alvaro Corrada, del Rio, S.J., Bishop of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Tyler. Bishop Corrada was also the third Bishop of Tyler.

Present at the Ordination and Installation of Bishop Strickland will Archbishop Carlo Vigano, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. Archbishop Vigano is the personal representative of Pope Benedict XVI. Archbishop Vigano will read the Official Documents from Pope Benedict XVI appointing Bishop Strickland as fourth Bishop of Tyler

Additionally, 25 to 30 Archbishops, or Bishops from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana will be in attendance.
