Van goes into Smith Co. Creek, backs up traffic on Lake Placid Rd.

SMITH CO. (KYTX) - Traffic is rerouted on Lake Placid Road near Highway 155 this morning after a van crashed into a creek.

It happened shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

DPS says a van was headed east on Lake Placid Road, when it came across a curve too fast on slick streets. That's when investigators say the van crossed the median and hit a guardrail on the bridge. The van ended up in the creek upright.

Noonday Volunteer firefighters say the woman driving the car was taken to the hospital.

DPS says the driver will be given a citation for the accident. Smith County Road and Bridge crews are inspecting the bridge to make sure it is passable.
