Van Zandt Co authorities seeking victims of cemetery thefts

VAN ZANDT CO. (KYTX) - Authorities in Van Zandt County are asking assistance in identifying victims of recent thefts from local cemeteries.

Two suspects remain in custody in connection with the vandalism. Ruby and Jack Brown of Murchison, Texas were arrested in Gainesville May 27, 2014 and charged with theft of property from a grave.

Van Zandt County Chief Deputy Bob Keltner says at least nine cemeteries were vandalized during a two month period beginning in March, 2014 and more cemeteries are being identified. Most of the items stolen included vases which were then sold for the brass.

Myrtle Springs Cemetery - Myrtle Springs

If you have a loved one buried in the following cemeteries and have brass items missing, please contact the constable's office at (903) 833-5705.

Authorities are working to add everyone affected by these thefts, and would like to get the reports completed as soon as possible.

Constables have also identified several cemeteries that are not victims of these particular suspects, but have taken reports on.
