Van Zandt County courthouse shut down Monday

FROM THE TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH:

The Van Zandt County Courthouse will be closed today after a weekend water leak flooded the courthouse.

County Judge Rhita Kotches said the county has been in the process of repairing basement walls. She said the walls were sealed and were covered back up with dirt, but somewhere between the weekend rains and crews working, a water line was broken.

On Sunday afternoon, roughly three inches of water stood in some of the offices and several feet of water flooded the inside the elevator shaft and the building's boiler room, Judge Koches said.

Water was shut off to the building, but the building's boiler system uses water for cooling. Judge Koches said with no water, restrooms or air conditioning, the county decided to close for the day while repairs were being made.

The courthouse is expected open back up on Tuesday, but it depends on the severity of the damage, she said.
