Veterans honored by Tyler firefighters at cookout

(KYTX) - Veterans day is Monday, but Tyler firefighters honored them today.
It was a big cookout that drew a big crowd.

Firefighters worked hard to make meals for city employees who lined up for a plate.
The lunch is to honor fellow city workers who have served our country.
Veterans say it's important to have these events to remind others of the men and women who have served and those serving now.

"Lot of soldiers never came back and those that did come back, part of them stayed overseas and so I think we need to always remember the sacrifices that were made and these are little tokens, but they go a long way," says Russ Jackson, employee of City of Tyler.

This is an annual event for the City of Tyler. Major General John Furlow was the guest speaker today.
