Investigators identified the victim in a drowning over the weekend as 51-year-old Benny Joe Ray of Mt. Pleasant on Monday.

According to the Mt. Pleasant District Office of Texas Parks and Wildlife, Ray was in a small boat in a cove on the northern portion Lake Bob Sandlin, having used a newly installed boat ramp near Water District Park to enter the water. The accident happened around 11:00am Saturday.

Witnesses said Ray's boat capsized after a gust of wind blew through. Investigators said Ray had life jackets in the boat, but he was not wearing one.
