Victim identified in Rusk County robbery homicide case

RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - A man found dead in his Rusk County home has been identified as 79-year-old Donald Clark. His nephew found him shot to death Saturday morning.

In a press conference Monday, the Rusk County Sheriff was able to give a little more information. We know detectives are calling this case a robbery homicide and we know who the victim is. As for who's responsible for his death, investigators are still working to figure that out.

For about two years, Clark had been living in his house off FM 2012 in Rusk County, with no incidents.

Saturday that changed when he was found dead from a gunshot wound and the house was robbed.

"We're trying to go through and not leave anything undone," said county sheriff Jeff Price.

He said a multi-hour search Sunday used mounted patrols, and multiple county agencies helped look for evidence.

The search area included about a two mile stretch around the victim's home.

"There were some items that we knew were missing so we widened out  the search area to see if the subject discarded them," Price said.

He's not said what the evidence is, but that  money and other personal items were missing from Clark's home.

Law enforcement says, lately several robberies and burglaries have been popping up all across the county, however, no incidents similar to this one involving death has been reported.

Who the  suspect or suspects are, the sheriff's office still does not know, and as of now have no leads either.

"We're still way too early in the investigation to answer these questions," said Price.

As the investigation continues, officials urge county residents to stay alert. They said if you don't know someone, don't' open your door, and if you see something out of the ordinary call it in.
