Victim shot near UT Tyler identified

Tyler Police Department:

TYLER (KYTX) - The victim who was shot early Sunday morning at Patriot and University is identified as Tarrington Joiner, black male, 01/28/1991, of Tyler.   

Investigators were told that Joiner and two friends were at Outlaws Club on Hwy. 110 South the night of the shooting.  Joiner got into an altercation with another B/M inside the club, but then left.  

A tan Dodge Durango with large rims occupied by several B/M's pulled up next to Joiner's vehicle on Patriot at University and fired several rounds into Joiner's vehicle. Joiner was struck by one round that entered his chest. Joiner's friend jumped into the driver's seat and drove him immediately to the Hospital.  Joiner remains in stable condition at this time. 

Anyone with information about the suspects involved in this crime is urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833).  Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspects in this case or any felony case.

On September 23, 2012 at approximately 2:29 a.m., Tyler Police Department received a call from Trinity Mother Francis Hospital stating that they had received a patient in the emergency room with a gunshot wound. 

Officers responded to the hospital and were advised that the victim had a single gunshot to the chest. Officers spoke with the victim and two other witnesses and found that the shooting occurred while they were all in a vehicle at the intersection of University and Patriot. 

The victim's vehicle was located outside the hospital with numerous bullet holes in it. The actual crime scene was found at the intersection of University and Patriot. Officers found several shell casings at this location. 

The victim was admitted to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition. This investigation    is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to call the Tyler Police Department. 

There is no additional information at this time. The Tyler Police Department will release additional information as we collect it and the investigation allows.
