CORRECTION: Funeral will be held at North Star Missionary Baptist Church.
TYLER (KYTX) - A vigil was held Saturday night at PT Cole Park for Briana Young. She's the young mother shot and killed Tuesday night.
CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey went to the vigil, and the community said they hope to see change, and they're saying enough is enough.
Dozens upon dozens of lights shine for the life of Young. She was with her 3-year-old son when she was caught in the middle of what police say was gang-related gunfire.
"Life is precious and a life was lost and many lives were impacted by that loss," said Young's uncle Stephen Lynch.
Lynch along with swarms of others came together for the vigil. They thought it best to hold the vigil at the same place where Young's live was cut short.
" We're not standing for it in our community and our state any more," said church member Gladys Pettigrew.
They're taking a stand against the type of violence that took her life.
"I think right now our young people don't value life, just to go randomly and shoot at someone that shows me there's no value of a life," said Pettigrew.
Through this hard time for the Young family, they say they must remain strong, because Young's son must now depend on them.
"The young son, his first day of school his mother won't be there, Christmas she won't be there," said Lynch.
It's a hard reality, but one they hope will be the spark to decrease the violence in their community.
"We want to honor life, but there was a great loss here," Lynch said.
Vigil goers said, while this is tragic, they lean on their faith because things could have been worse. They say thank you to the community and to Tyler Police for taking it upon themselves to come out and keep watch at the vigil.
Young's funeral is set for Wednesday, at 1:00 p.m. at North Star Missionary Baptist Church Baptist Church.
