EVANSVILLE, IND. - Twitter came alive Wednesday as people reacted to multiple tweets about Walmart's supposed choice of sign placement.
Walmart's back-to-school theme this year is "Own the school year like a hero," and displays are all around the stores for the season.
However, one of the signs was placed directly above a glass case filled with guns at a store in Evansville, Indiana and photos of it spread like wildfire across social media:
Walmart quickly responded:
This is definitely not okay, Sara. We’re very sorry and checking into how this could have happened. -Valerie— Walmart (@Walmart) August 9, 2017
We hear you. 😞 This was horrible and we removed the sign as soon as we found out. -Vik— Walmart (@Walmart) August 9, 2017
Just to clarify, the manager at the location reported to us confirmed that no such sign is near this display. Again, so sorry. -Dean— Walmart (@Walmart) August 9, 2017
It is not clear whether a employee did this or it was someone's idea of a joke, as some on Twitter hinted:
A random customer picked up a sign and propped it on a gun case for giggles. That's almost certainly how it happened.— Matthew Edmund (@childofnewlight) August 10, 2017
