New safety procedures are being recommended at airports after a number of recent mid-air close calls between commercial airliners.  The National Transportation Safety Board just finished five investigations involving jetliners that narrowly avoided mid-air collisions near major U.S. airports.   The safety hazard identified in the five incidents all occurred when an airplane that was on approach to an airport aborted the landing attempt.  The NTSB is recommending the FAA modify air traffic control procedures to avoid putting planes performing a go-around on potential collision courses with other planes.
