(CNN/KSWB) - College and beer go hand-in-hand for many students. Now two San Diego universities are offering courses in craft brewing. But, the programs are no joke.
It may not look like a classroom, but if you want learn about craft beer, two San Diego colleges may have what it takes to quench your thirst for knowledge. "We've developed an 18 month to 24 month program, a certificate program, that will provide you everything you need to know to work in a brewery in San Diego," says Teresa Poole, Program Manager at UCSD.
"The intention of the program is to provide San Diego with qualified applicants since there are so many jobs popping up in this industry," program manager Teresa Poole said. "The realization is that people need this training."
Introduce the University of California San Diego's extension brewing program.
curriculum for the professional certificate is broken up into three parts: the science of brewing, the business of brewing and an internship. Program manager Teresa Poole says students will get hands-on instruction in local micro-brews instead of the traditional classroom. But it won't be a cakewalk.
"Just now, I think it's becoming even more recognized as an actual science, an educational field," says Poole.
San Diego State university will unveil a similar six class program this fall.

"Since there are so many jobs popping up in this industry, the realization is that people need this training," says Poole.
For San Diego, it seems the courses make sense. Travel and Leisure put San Diego in the top 10 for Best Beer Cities in the country.
