(CNN) - Now that spring has finally sprung, a lot of us have one thing on our mind -- vacation. So what are the latest travel trends?

If the nicer weather has you dreaming about vacation after a cold hard winter, you are not alone. According to kayak.com, Americans are searching out warm and sunny destinations for Memorial Day and thinking internationally for summer.

This year the trend for Memorial Day is to head south of the border.  The number one trending destination spot is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Kayak reports that flight searches are up 59% this year compared to memorial day searches last year.

Some of the other top Memorial Day destinations -- Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Nashville, Tennessee; New Orleans, Louisiana; Austin, Texas; and Savannah, Georgia.

And if you are looking past Memorial Day weekend to plan your summer getaway, grab your passport!  Americans are apparently thinking big trips abroad for summer.  Kayak says it has seen a big increase in international trip planning and the number one trending destination abroad this summer for Americans, is Rio de Janeiro, the site of this year's soccer World Cup.
