(CBS/KPHO) - A family in Mesa, Arizona had an unusual sighting above their home this week. What looked like a floating fireball landed with a special message attached.

It's not every day: you see a fireball  in the sky.  Sunday night, the glowing object, floating toward their Mesa home, had the Hoover family guessing.

"It started coming closer and I was like: I hope it's not an airplane on fire. I'm like - that would be horrible," says Laura Hoover.
That fireball turned out to be a floating paper lantern with three notes attached.

"This one here must be from a little baby that probably can't write," Hoover guessed.

The second note said, "I love you mom. I hope you get better soon."

The third note read, "Please come back to us. We miss you and love you."

The sweet sentiments nearly brought Hoover to tears.

"I could've cried, really," she said. "That's a very emotional thing. And I'm sure it's hard for those little children."

Hoover wants the mystery family, who sent the lantern up for their mother, to know her prayers are with them.

"I hope she's doing better," she said. "I hope she gets home with her family. They miss her, love her - and I wish them all the best."
