Week-long pop-up clinic offers care to uninsured in ETX

Doctors and other health workers are volunteering this week to help the uninsured from all over East Texas.

The East Texas medical and dental outreach is set up at Van Junior High School. It's open
Monday through Thursday this week from 8am to 5pm and Friday from 8am to noon.
"It's a blessing," patient Frankie Shelton said Monday morning. "It's a blessing from the Lord to be able to."

The doctors are dealing with common problems like diabetes, high blood pressure,  high cholesterol and asthma. They're also providing free mammograms.

The dentists are handling fillings and extractions.

The bigger goal, though, is to match patients with doctors for the long term.

"And we hope to improve upon that this year," operations chief Russell Hopkins said. "That way they're not seeing a physician once in a setting like this. They see them on an ongoing basis."

The doctors recommend bringing a photo I.D. and your shot records.
