JACKSONVILLE (KYTX) - Reports of gunshots near Westside elementary in Jacksonville temporarily put the school on lock down.
Jacksonville responded to the area around the school around 11:00 a.m. Friday after receiving the calls about shooting.
Law enforcement said they search the area for gunmen, shell casing and other evidence of shooting, but were unable to find anything. They say the shooting could have echoed from the county to the area around the school since nothing turned up.
About 30 minutes after the shelter in place was ordered for the school, police told school officials it was safe and the students returned to the regular day schedule.
"There was no reports of any shots fired on the campus or in close proximity, but of course the school is gonna take safety precautions," said police officer William Berryhill.
Jacksonville ISD released a statement saying none of the students or staff were in danger. They said it's typical to implement a shelter in place in situation like this as they wait for police.
