TYLER (KYTX) - You are not alone if you've been bothered by dry, itchy, and irritated skin. It's Winter time, and a lot of people are noticing that their hands and face are suffering from the weather.
"We still have sun here in East Texas, but then we have temperature change, humidity changes and we're indoors where the air gets really dry." says Dr. Mack Stewart with Pure Radiance Medical Spa in Tyler.
He says all of that translates to inflamed, irritated skin. But, there are ways to combat Mother Nature's harsh Winter weather.
"The first way you want to treat that is try to avoid it. So, try to avoid sun damage with your sun protector, just like in the Summer."
Lots of sun block for you and the kids- and don't forget to keep yourself well-hydrated.
"Our feet get dry, our legs get dry. Everything gets dry in the Winter." says Brittany McCaughan.
She keeps her skin supple through products, treatments and of course, plenty of water.
"I've found that putting diced up lemon or oranges in my water really helps."
Dr. Stewart says hydration is especially important for women.
"Men tend to drink fluids a lot more than women. And, I have to remind my female patients stay hydrated, especially in the Winter."
He says it's ok to use heavy, oily creams on your hands, but you want something lighter for your face to avoid breakouts.
